Tough clashes between Afghan forces and the Taliban have claimed dozens of deaths in an eastern province of the country, official sources said on Thursday, while the two sides are holding peace talks in Qatar.
The clashes took place in three districts in Nangarhar province, when Taliban fighters attacked several checkpoints for Afghan forces and pro-government militias, a spokesman for the governor, Ataullah Khogyani told AFP.
At least 11 members of the Afghan security forces and 8 paramilitaries were killed in the fighting.
