Pierre Gasly of Alpha Tauri surprised by winning the Italian Grand Prix at Monza on Sunday, the first victory of a French driver in Formula 1 since 1996.
Gasly, 24, won an atypical race, marked by an interruption and an unprecedented podium that had Spaniard Carlos Sainz Jr. of McLaren in second and Canadian Lance Stroll of Racing Point in third.
“It is incredible. I’m not sure if this is real. It was a completely crazy race, ”said the Frenchman after the race, surprised by his victory.
