CCM calls for choreographer and dancers, artistic exchange boosts local flair

The Macao Cultural Centre, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, is calling for a local choreographer and up to four dancers to join a programme under the guidance of internationally acclaimed Chinese choreographer Sang Jijia. Currently at its auditioning stage, this collaboration with Hong Kong’s City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC) will be the nurturing ground for a brand new performance to be staged in September 2021.

Following the audition process this October, the selected choreographer will travel to Hong Kong in December to experience CCDC’s rehearsal and creative routines under Sang’s directions. Later on, the mentor will set up an artistic residence in Macao, where a group of dancers coming from Guangdong and Hong Kong will join the cast of the new piece. This project is an opportunity for Macao artists to be inspired and learn from top-notch professionals, making the most of a dynamic, creative mind-set.

Founded more than 40 years ago, the CCDC has staged over 200 original works, putting together collaborations with outstanding artists of multiple disciplines from around the world. The company has conquered regional and international audiences with exquisite modern dance shows staged yearly in over 60 performances.

Sang Jijia is an iconic contemporary dancer and creator trained in Germany and brought to the international arena after winning numerous awards in the 1990’s. The Chinese choreographer worked at the Ballet Frankfurt under William Forsythe, created pieces for companies in Beijing, Guangzhou and Hong Kong, and has received commissions from well-known dance companies across the world like the Gothenburg Opera Dance Company, among others.

This novel artistic exchange and collaboration project by CCM is now recruiting a local choreographer and dancers. Candidates may submit their applications until September 25, 2020.
