Subsidy for unpaid leave workers announced

João Santos Filipe

The reduction in the number of tourists and the impact on the economy led the Executive to launch a program to subsidize training for those looking for their first job or who are on unpaid leave

Starting next month, the Government will launch a program to subsidize training for students who have completed higher education and are looking for a job, as well as for workers who are taking unpaid leave. The “subsidized training plan” was presented on Friday, after being discussed by the Executive Council.

With regard to unemployment benefits, according to the Executive’s criteria, people who are unemployed since January 1, 2019 or later are eligible. Students who have completed higher education this year and are unemployed can also apply.

After attending the training and the respective evaluation, there are two levels of subsidies. Participants who find work in the two months after the training, those who create an activity on their own or those who register with the Directorate of Services for Labor Affairs to find a job, even if without success, receive support of 6,656 patacas.
