Excessive politicization in Timor-Leste has affected development

Former Finance Minister Rui Gomes said today that excessive politicization in East Timor, the “incurable epidemic” that is the lack of confidence in leadership and relegating human capital to the background have conditioned national development.

“Politicization has been a powerful weapon to decompress the determination and political will on the side of those who hold power,” said Rui Gomes, in an interview with Lusa.

“Distractions are constant and the lack of confidence in leadership has become an incurable epidemic. It is this non-economic part that may affect the performance of the people and institutions responsible for the proposed measures for the recovery of the post-covid-19 economy ”, he stressed.
