The United States formally activated a controversial and uncertain procedure on Thursday at the UN to demand the restoration of international sanctions against Iran, accused of violating the 2015 agreement on the Iranian nuclear program.
In a letter, the American ambassador to the United Nations, Kelly Craft, “notified the Security Council” of “a notable lack of respect for Iran in relation to its commitments” set out in the text aimed at preventing Tehran from equipping itself with an atomic bomb. .
The letter was delivered by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to Indonesian ambassador Dean Triansyah Djani, who chairs the United Nations Security Council this month.
