Unitel calls a meeting to replace Isabel dos Santos

Unitel has called the company’s shareholders to an extraordinary general meeting, on September 22, which has as its sole point the election of a member of the board of directors.

In the notice published on Friday in the Jornal de Angola, Unitel informs that the meeting will be held simultaneously at its headquarters in Luanda and by videoconference.

The Angolan businesswoman Isabel dos Santos left her place on the board of Unitel, after 20 years in the company, due to the “climate of permanent conflict”, as she justified.

“After 20 years dedicated to the creation, development and success of Unitel, I chose to leave the position of member of the board of directors of the company,” Isabel dos Santos announced in a statement sent to Lusa last week.

Isabel dos Santos, who controls Vidatel, which owns 25% of the company, explained her decision is related to “the climate of permanent conflict” that has settled on the company’s board of directors, which has state-owned oil company Sonangol as its main shareholder.
