Americas suffer “mental health crisis” because of the pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic caused an unprecedented “mental health crisis” on the American continent, PAHO warned Tuesday, as infections once again set off alarms in Spain and started a new phase in the Asia-Pacific region.

According to the WHO regional office for the Americas, based on research in the United States, Brazil and Mexico, the three American countries most affected by the coronavirus show that almost half of adults suffer from the health emergency, which has also generated a “ increase in domestic violence ”.

Latin America and the Caribbean, where more than 243,000 deaths and 6.2 million cases have been reported since the start of the pandemic, according to an AFP balance sheet, accounted for nearly half of all coronavirus deaths in the world in the past week.
