Hundreds demonstrate in Lisbon against the growing will of the extreme right

Against fascism, racism and for freedom and civic rights, hundreds of people demonstrated this Sunday in Lisbon and Porto in a protest that whoever was there said it was necessary because of the growing willingness that the extreme right feels to commit crimes.

The protest was organized by the Anti-Fascist Unitary Front and with chants and banners the protesters condemned the most recent act of racism in Portugal. The Public Ministry is investigating the case of three intimidating emails that were sent to three legislators and representants of organizations combating fascism and racism by a group connected with the extreme right.

Rita Osório, organizer of the demonstration from the Anti-Fascist Unitary Front and whose name was on the list, said that she was suprised to see that many people appeared for the protests. She also claimed that fascism is promoted by legislator André Ventura, from the Chega party. He is the one who through his hate speech, racism and xenophobia is giving strength to extremist groups and legitimizing violent behaviour in Portugal.

Article 46 of the Portuguese Constitution prohibits racist and fascist organizations. Protesters condemned the rise of fascism and demand that Portugal stops being blind to the fact that there is racism in Portugal.
