The President of the United States, Donald Trump, defended on Thursday that Hong Kong “will go to hell” as an international financial center if it comes under the control of China.
“Hong Kong will never be able to thrive under the control of a China so opposed to the thousands of geniuses who ran it,” Trump said in an interview with Fox Business News. “Hong Kong’s markets are going to hell. Nobody is going to do business there, ”he added.
The United States ended, on July 14, the preferential regime granted by Washington to Hong Kong, after the imposition by China, in late June, of a national security law in the territory that prohibits “any act of treason, separation, rebellion, subversion against the Central People’s Government ”.
