The Mozambican Defense and Security Forces announced this Wednesday that it had killed 59 terrorists in northern Mozambique, in Cabo Delgado province, during the past week

The statement comes a day after the occupation of the Port of Mocímboa da Praia, in Cabo Delgado, by the Islamic State terrorists.

Insurgents had been trying to occupy the Mocímboa da Praia district for about a week, and infiltrated communities before attacking local villages, the Joint Defense and Security Forces Command (FDS) said in a statement.

“We have been obtaining operational results in the course of actions to defend the population against terrorists, pointing out that there were 59 human [terrorist] casualties, we destroyed six camps and the means used by them”, the statement said.

The SDS reiterated its commitment to restoring public order and security in the area, adding offensive operations to neutralize terrorists who have used the population to “shield themselves”.

“We ask for the collaboration of all to report the existence of armed men or abnormal movements that can testify in the national territory”, ask the authorities.

At least 280 malefactors, among nationals and foreigners, who act in some parts of the province of Cabo Delgado, in the north of Mozambique, were neutralized by the security forces assigned to the Government led by Filipe Nyusi.

The country’s Prime Minister, Carlos Agostinho do Rosário, said this Wednesday, in the capital Maputo, that this operation is a corollary of the close collaboration and denunciation made by the local populations.
