Christ the Redeemer, in Rio de Janeiro, lit up on Thursday with the colors of the Lebanese flag, in homage to the victims of the explosion in Beirut that left 137 dead and more than 5,000 wounded.
“We came to send a message of solidarity and support, and to tell the Lebanese people that we have always been strong and that we have always managed to get out of all miseries,” said the Lebanese consul general in Rio de Janeiro, Alejandro Bitar, during the ceremony at the monument , quoted by the Efe news agency.
Brazil’s biggest tourist symbol, which has been used in recent months to display awareness messages about the coronavirus, served this time to pay tribute to the Lebanese people after the devastating explosion on Tuesday in the port of Beirut.
