India has identified 55,079 cases of covid-19 in the past 24 hours, a new daily record in the country, bringing the total to 1.6 million since the start of the pandemic, officials said on Friday.
In the last 24 hours alone, the country recorded 779 deaths, accounting for a total of 35,747 deaths since the first case was registered in the country. The Ministry of Health also reported that one million people recovered from the disease.
Despite the increase in infections in recent weeks, the Government has decided to lift the curfew, established at the end of March, starting this weekend.
