Tarantino documentary shows tasty backstage

Ivan Finotti

Film has the participation of great actors and addresses the director’s career in thematic chapters

As the name says, “Quentin Tarantino: The First Eight” provides an overview of the director’s first eight films. And as is common in documentaries of this type, the film is a vehicle for all respondents – especially producers and actors – to give praise and call the object of study nothing less than “genius”.

With that little caveat, “The first eight” is an interesting entertainment for those who like cinema and its backstage. The actors who appear in an interview with director Tara Wood are those who frequent Tarantino’s films: Samuel L. Jackson, Christoph Waltz, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, Lucy Liu, Jennifer Jason Leigh and a few others.

The film is divided into three parts, addressing the director’s career in a thematic way. Chapter one is called “The Revolution” and begins by talking about Tarantino’s initial scripts, such as “True Romance” (directed by Tony Scott in 1993) and “Assassins by Nature” (Oliver Stone in 1994).

His first film, which made him a star in Cannes, was 1992’s “Rent Dogs”. 1994’s “Pulp Fiction” took the Palme d’Or at the same festival.
