Huawei restriction by Portugal may increase annual costs by 63 ME

The restriction of competition from Huawei on the 5G network by Portugal could increase the cost of building the network by 63 million euros per year, considers a study by Oxford Economics released yesterday.

“Our model suggests that restricting an important participant can increase the cost of building the 5G network by 63 million euros per year for the next decade (19% of base costs) in our central scenario”, reads the study “Restriction competition on the 5G network in Europe: an economic impact study ”, of June, from Oxford Economics, commissioned by Huawei, which analyzes 31 European countries.

“Due to the increase in prices, one million people (10% of the population) who would otherwise have access to the 5G [fifth generation mobile] network may be without access” to the new technology in 2023, he added.
