US accuses WHO Director-General of being bought by China

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo accused the director general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedro Ghebreyesus, of having been “bought” by the Chinese government, British newspapers say today.

According to the daily newspapers The Times and Daily Telegraph, the head of US diplomacy dropped that accusation on Tuesday, during a conference with British lawmakers, banned from journalists. According to sources present at that meeting, Pompeo said that the mistakes of WHO – which he classified as a political organization, not based on science – in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic caused “British deaths”.

“When things started to change, at the most important moment, when there was a pandemic in China, Dr. Tedros, which was bought by the Chinese Government… I can’t say anything more, but I can say, I say that, based on solid information, an agreement was reached on the occasion of the election of Mr. Tedros at the head of WHO, ”Pompeo said. , according to a report by the Daily Telegraph.

“There was an agreement for this election. And when things started to change, there were Britons killed, because of the agreement that was made ”, explained the American Secretary of State, according to the Daily Telegraph. The comments were made during a meeting organized by the Henry Jackson Society – a ‘think tank’ described by The Times as a hardliner against Beijing – two weeks after the United States had officially made its exit from WHO, that Washington accuses of taking too long to act in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic.
