The chairman of the Tokyo Olympic Games organizing committee says that the development of a treatment or vaccine against covid-19 is essential for the holding of the sporting event that was postponed to 2021.
The development of a treatment for the new coronavirus will be a fundamental element to allow the holding of the Tokyo2020 Olympic Games in 2021, said the chairman of the organizing committee, Yoshiro Mori.
“The first point will be the development of a vaccine or a medicine”, underlined Mori, in an interview with the Japanese television station NHK.
Due to the covid-19 pandemic, the Olympic Games, which were due to start on Friday, were postponed, starting on July 23, 2021.
“If the situation continues as it is, we cannot [organize the Games]”, added the official, however, refusing to think about this hypothesis: “I cannot imagine that everything will remain as it is next year”.
