In Portugal, European, North American, Canadian academic degrees and some Brazilian degrees are automatically recognized, however, the same is not true for academic degrees from third countries in the field of Medicine, with Venezuela being listed among these third countries as an example.
For Medicine, and in all degrees that are not subject to automatic recognition, a specific recognition process – former equivalence – is carried out, subject to approval in procedures for the assessment of clinical and linguistic knowledge. This procedure is performed in Portuguese Medical Schools, according to an annual calendar, which is not always compatible with the applicant’s need and urgency.
