Bolsonaro asks João Lourenço to protect members of the IURD in Angola

The President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, sent a letter to his Angolan counterpart João Lourenço, asking that the protection of members of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (IURD) in Angola be increased to “guarantee their physical and material integrity and the restitution of properties and houses ”

In the letter, signed by the President of Brazil, and posted on Twitter by his son, Bolsonaro says he is concerned about “the recent episodes in Angola of invasions of temples and other facilities of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God”, reports today the Angolan newspaper Novo Jornal.

However, in the letter sent to João Lourenço it is also read that “there are reports of aggressions against members of the IURD, who in some cases would have been expelled from their homes”.

Bolsonaro considers, in the letter, that “it is necessary to avoid that facts of this order happen again or are characterized as a consequence of” internal disputes “”. The Brazilian President also recalls that “there are close to 500 IURD pastors in Angola and, in this universe, 65 are Brazilians”.
