New York plans to reopen schools with live and remote education

Plan was presented by the mayor of the city, Bill de Blasio

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio presented a plan to reopen the country’s largest school system in September. Thus, the idea goes through a “mixed education” calendar through which students would alternate between classrooms and their homes.

The proposal comes at a time when school administrators across the country are striving to balance security and educational needs, and President Donald Trump urges schools to reopen in the fall.

Under the New York plan, which requires state approval, 1.1 million public school students would spend two days at school and three at home. Then they would reverse the sequence the following week

“This mixed model, this type of split schedule model, is what we can do under current conditions,” said De Blasio. “Then we will hope and pray that science will help us with a vaccine, a cure or treatment.”

The plan also calls for school buildings to be disinfected frequently. In addition, students would wear face shields and maintain social distance in these locations, the mayor said. Safety-conscious parents can keep their children at home for virtual classes and other materials, he added.

Currently, almost all US states are considering reopening plans. They closed schools in March, and the pandemic forced them to switch to some form of remote education that normally depends on Internet connections.
