Black priests and ex-seminarians report racism within the Catholic Church

Afro-Brazilian pastoral estimates that only 2.7% of priests in Brazil are black.

On December 7, 2010, Father Geraldo Natalino, known as Father Gegê, was selected to be a professor at the Religious Culture Commission of the PUC Gávea unit in Rio de Janeiro. He never took office and claims to have been prevented by the then auxiliary bishop and responsible for the university without ever receiving a justification.

Father Gegê, responsible for the Santa Bernadete Parish in Manguinhos (RJ), is black. Dom Paulo César, the then auxiliary bishop and today bishop of the diocese of São Carlos (SP), is white.
