Guinea-Bissau PR promises to “talk to American friends” to lift embargo on Cuba

The President of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, said today that he will speak to “American friends” to ask for the lifting of the embargo against Cuba, which, he said, must end.

“As President of Guinea-Bissau, I will speak with American friends to end the embargo on Cuba. It must end, ”said Sissoco Embaló, welcoming a Cuban medical team who arrived in Bissau last Friday to help the country fight the pandemic caused by the new coronavirus.

Expressing himself in Castilian, Umaro Sissoco Embaló stressed that the 23 members of the Cuban medical brigade are at home and that the Guinean and Cuban peoples “are brothers”, as a result of friendly relations between the two countries.

The Guinean President thanked the Cuban medical team who “came to help in the war against the coronavirus” and ended his speech, on the fly, with the buzzword of the Cuban revolution: “Homeland or death”, in which the Cubans responded in unison: “ We will win ”.

The new coronavirus, detected in Guinea-Bissau since March 25, has already infected a total of 1,654 people and caused 24 deaths.

More than 300 people have recovered from the disease.
