Monuments of the revolution that transformed absolutist monarchy into constitutional have disappeared
In Thailand, statues of certain historical figures have disappeared. But they are not monuments dedicated to colonial and racist leaders, like those that became the target of protests that broke out around the world after the death of George Floyd.
In fact, the disappearance has occurred with statues of leaders from the 1932 revolution, which transformed the country’s absolutist monarchy into a constitutional monarchy. Officially considered national heroes, these personalities are symbols of democracy in Thailand.
