Angolan government approves Plan to accelerate agriculture

More than 91.2 billion Kwanzas will be used this year to double the production of cereals, from two to four million tons, in addition to boosting fishing in the country. The figures appear in a plan approved yesterday by the Economic Commission of the Council of Ministers

In the next two years, the Executive expects to invest 150.5 billion kwanzas to accelerate agricultural and fishing production and cover two million families. The country wants, in the short term, to accelerate the step towards the improvement of food and nutritional security, through the increase of agricultural production, fishing and aquaculture, in order to increase the number of jobs, household income, growth consequent diversification of exports and substitution of imports.

To this end, the Economic Commission of the Council of Ministers approved, yesterday, in Lunada, at the 6th ordinary meeting, the Integrated Plan for the Acceleration of Family Farming, an instrument that intends, in essence, to definitively avoid the country’s dependence on imported food products . Of this amount, 60.8 billion will be financed by the General State Budget (OGE) and 30.4 by the private sector, through the operationalization of available credit lines, such as the Fund for Support to Agriculture Development (FADA), FADPA and FDCA. In addition, there are also credit lines from the Development Bank of Angola (BDA).
