India recorded a record 465 deaths and 15,968 cases of covid-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 14,476 and infected to 456,183, officials announced today.
The Ministry of Health also indicated that Bombay and New Delhi are the most affected cities in the country and that the recovery rate continues to improve, standing at 56.38%.
The states of Maharashtra, New Delhi and Tamil Nadu are the most affected, with almost 60% of all cases in the country.
New Delhi is the biggest current concern for the Government, criticized for the low volume of tests performed and the lack of hospital beds.
With the increase in infections in New Delhi, the Government estimated that there will be almost 550,000 cases by the end of July.
India is the fourth country most affected by the pandemic in the world, after the United States, Russia and Brazil.
The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 473,000 deaths and infected more than 9.1 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the France-Presse news agency (AFP).
The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December in Wuhan, a city in central China.
After Europe succeeded China as the center of the pandemic in February, the American continent is now the one with the most confirmed cases and the most deaths.
