The Time Lords

João Melo*

“Dad, it’s all dead,” my daughter said in a deep voice on the phone, while on vacation at her grandmother’s house.

In a dramatic fraction of a second, I went through various scenarios in my mind, from dogs, cats, and plants that my grandmother doesn’t have, to my grandmother herself, before asking her “all dead, what?” She replied “The Sims, dad”. For those who don’t know, Sims are a life simulation game, where you can create and control the lives of virtual people. Relieved then I heard the explanation: “I was playing with the free will mode off, I went out with my grandmother and left the game in play; when I arrived there were unpaid bills, homework scattered on the floor, leftover food everywhere, and three tombs inside the house ”. This episode occurred nine years ago. It could be now.

We perceive the world in three dimensions, however there are mathematical models that prove the existence of at least eleven. The fourth dimension is thought to be time. Something or someone who has access to it will observe time “from above”, not in a sequential line of past, present and future, but as a whole, perhaps the state that comes closest to the concept of eternity.
