Shelter is the main need for displaced people in Cabo Delgado

The acting representative of the United Nations High Commissioner (UNHCR) for Refugees in Mozambique said today that shelter is the main need for displaced people due to armed violence in Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique.

“The biggest challenge is the shelter. They travel long distances and most end up staying in the homes of friends or family, ”said Samuel Chakwera, in an interview with Lusa.

The United Nations High Commissioner in Mozambique accounts for a total of 211,000 people displaced due to violence in the province of Cabo Delgado, where, since 2017, armed ‘jihadist’ groups have carried out attacks that have already killed at least 600 people.
