Eight black and Latino prison guards filed a discrimination complaint against Minnesota prison officials, allegedly forbidden to contact former policeman Derek Chauvin, who was arrested for causing the death of African American George Floyd.
According to local media outlets, cited by the Efe news agency, prison officials have banned the contact of these eight guards with the former police officer accused of George Floyd’s death “because they are not white”.
In the complaint, filed with the Minnesota Human Rights Department last Friday, prison guards claim that when Chauvin arrived at the detention center on May 29, the superintendent ordered all “colored” officers to abandon the floor where the prisoner would be.
