56,000 refugees from various nationalities live in Angola, in the Lôvua settlement (Lunda-Norte) and in the province of Luanda, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) revealed yesterday.
In a message referring to World Refugee Day, marked yesterday, UNHCR indicates that nine thousand citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), coming from the Kasai region, in 2017, are in the Lôvua settlement (Lunda-Norte) and 47 thousand reside in other provinces of the country, mostly in Luanda.
In view of the current moment imposed by Covid-19, UNHCR highlights the resilience of the most vulnerable groups, such as refugees, who, despite living in extremely complicated conditions, contribute to actions in the communities. The organization points out, as an example, the work carried out by the refugees in the communities of Luanda and in the settlement of Lôvua, embodied in the production of masks for the local and refugee population.
