Pedro Lima, 49, was found dead this morning at Praia do Abano, in Guincho. Besides being a famous actor, he was a swimmer and represented Angola at the Seoul Olympic Games in 1988 and at the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992

Actor Pedro Lima, a leading figure in television and theater in Portugal, was found dead at about 10 am today on Abano beach, in Cascais, according to a source from the Maritime Authority. The car was at the beach access, with the actor’s belongings inside.

Pedro Lima, who was well known for TVI’s soap operas, left a written letter before he disappeared, which led his friends to suspect suicide. Pedro Lima’s sportsmanship was less well known but no less remarkable. Born in Luanda, Pedro Lima was a swimmer and represented Angola at the Seoul Olympic Games in 1988 and at the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992, as the Swimming Federation recalled on its Facebook page expressing “heartfelt condolences to the family”.

Sporting used its official page to express “regret” for the death of the actor, who he describes as “a fervent member” of the club and “a regular presence at the José Alvalade stadium”, remembering that he was a swimming athlete for the ‘lions’.

The Portuguese Rugby Federation also mourned the death of the 49-year-old actor, father of João Lima, a Portuguese international in the sport, addressing his condolences to the family.

The Judiciary Police is investigating the circumstances of the actor’s death.
