Angolan National Police apologize for excesses that resulted in deaths

The Interior Ministry spokesman publicly apologized to the injured citizens and families who lost their loved ones, due to the excessive use of force by some police and army personnel, during the period of prevention and combat against Covid- 19.

At a press conference to update data on the pandemic in the country, spokesman Waldemar José said that elements of the National Police and the Angolan Armed Forces take to the streets with the mission of protecting citizens, without any guidance for mistreating people or taking human lives, ANGOP reported.

“We are not enemies of the citizens, but we exist to guarantee legality, maintain tranquility and public order, as well as all the principles that guide the democratic and rule of law”, underlined the deputy commissioner, Tuesday night .

Waldemar José assured that at least ten agents of the National Police whose excesses will have resulted in the death of citizens, during the period of the State of Emergency, are in detention, and their respective criminal cases were referred to prosecutors, to be officially accused of crimes.
