Benfica took stock of the referees during the first round of the 2018/19 championship, reporting “a set of refereeing errors of a dimension that had not been seen for many years”, considering “many of them inexplicable and incomprehensible”.
The Supreme Administrative Court (STA) gave reason to the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) and ordered Benfica to pay a fine of 22 950 euros for criticism of arbitration in the club’s newsletter, released on January 14, 2019.
