PAIGC leader: “I am working abroad”

The president of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC), Domingos Simões Pereira, said that he did not run away from Guinea-Bissau and that, at the moment, he would have little scope to work in the country.

“I hear a lot of people saying that I fled the country and that I want to administer Guinea-Bissau from abroad. This is not true, ”said Simões Pereira, in a Creole message on the social network Facebook. “At this moment, with the State of Emergency underway, with the dictatorship that is trying to install in Guinea-Bissau, I realize that I would not have much scope to work, that is why I am working abroad,” added the former Prime Minister, stressing that he should return soon.

As part of the fight against the new coronavirus pandemic, the Guinean President, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, extended, for the fourth time since March, the State of Emergency in the country until Wednesday, June 10th. In the message to Guineans, Domingos Simões Pereira also spoke about the legal actions brought by him, by PAIGC and by the Government of Aristides Gomes against the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) at the Court of Justice of that organization.
