Three people detained in Macao on guard by Tiananmen

The Macao PSP detained three people during a vigil that took place, in the late afternoon, at the headquarters of the Union for Democratic Development. The news was advanced by TDM, which added that it was not possible to ascertain the reasons for the arrest, which took place near the Church of São Domingos, on the day that marks 31 years since the Tiananmen massacre. The usual Senate vigil was banned this year.
About 10 people in Macau marked Tiananmen’s 31st birthday inside a home, with online transmission, after authorities banned vigil, in an unprecedented decision, justifying the prevention of covid-19.

“I hope that this was the only year that we had to do this and that for the year we can do the vigil on the street,” said Luis Leong, one of about 10 participants in the event organized in a house of pro-democracy deputy Ng Kuok Cheong , which serves as the headquarters of the Macao Union for the Development of Democracy, an association that organizes vigils in Macau, which are usually held at Largo do Senado.

The territory has not registered new cases of covid-19 in about two months and no longer has any active cases.
