The Hong Kong Parliament approved on Thursday (04) a controversial law that makes it a crime to “disrespect” the Chinese anthem in any public demonstration.
Anyone who is caught booing or improperly using the “Volunteers’ March” could face up to three years in prison. The opposition, which abstained from voting because it felt that the issue was already defined, accused Beijing of making yet another maneuver to end the freedom of expression of Hong Kong residents. In all, there were 41 votes in favor and one against.
