Janez Kocijancic, president of the European Olympic Committees, died

Slovenian Janez Kocijancic, chairman of European Olympic Committees (EOC), died today in Ljubljana at the age of 78, the Slovenian news agency STA reported.

Throughout his career and public life, Kocijancic was a minister, legislator, director of Slovenian airline Adria Airways and held high positions in different sport organizations, such as vice president of International Ski Federation (FIS).

Kocijancic was one of the Slovenian Olympic Committee founders after the country’s independence in 1991. He was its first president and remained in office for five terms (1991-2014).

Since 2017, he has chaired EOC, an organization based in Rome that is composed by 50 national olympic committees.

In Slovenia, has received several awards for the promotion and development of Slovenian sport.
