Final of the Portuguese Cup will not be in Jamor

António Botelho com Tiago Santos

Since 1977, the final has been played at Estádio do Jamor. That was already the traditional stage for the last game of the Portuguese Cup since 1946, with only five exceptions.

The game between Benfica and FC Porto, in the final of the Portuguese Cup, will not take place at Estádio do Jamor. This decision is due to the conditions and requirements imposed by the General Health Directorate (DGS) at the last meeting with the Portuguese Football Federation, TSF confirmed.

In the opinion of the authorities, the Jamor stadium does not meet the conditions necessary for the final of the Cup. Not only, it does not fulfill some requirements, such as corridors in the interior delimited for different professionals, but also, for example, it would be difficult to control the access of the fans to the bench area, because as we know, the Estádio do Jamor has several accesses, some even through the forest of Jamor.
