The last country to receive a “delegation” of 200 to 500 Cuban “health workers” to reinforce the fight against the coronavirus was Argentina. According to the Spanish newspaper El Mundo, because of the pandemic, 21 brigades of Cuban doctors are spread over countries in Latin America, Africa, Europe and the Middle East.
In Argentina, the controversy started with a petition that gathered more than 120,000 signatures against the initiative of the regional government of Buenos Aires, after the country’s Medical Confederation and the opposition criticized the arrival of Cuban doctors. “No to Cuban doctors! Many don’t even have a ballot, others are secret agents”, were the watchwords in Buenos Aires, where protest panels were planned.
The controversy also accompanies the last contingent that arrived in Europe. In the Principality of Andorra, one of the newly arrived Cuban doctors tested positive for Covid-19. The risk of contagion forced the entire contingent to be quarantined, comprising 11 doctors and 27 nurses.
