Thailand’s PM to call on country’s 20 richest persons for help

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said on Friday he will call on Thailand’s 20 richest persons to help salvage the country from economic and social ills caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a televised program, Prayut said he will next week send an open letter to the 20 most wealthy persons in Thailand asking them to help the government contain the pandemic and deal with consequences in economic and social aspects.

Without naming names, the prime minister said the country’s 20 richest persons may already have done something to help but, he said, he will ask them to do more.

Prayut said those 20 richest persons are largely known as ingenious, influential and competent ones with vision and highly potential resources at their command. Prayut said they could virtually join Team Thailand in effort to help the government solve economic and social problems caused by the pandemic.

He said he will also visit medium- and small-sized business associations and organizations to collect their views and demands.
